Enrollment Criteria

For Initial Students (F-1 Change of Status Applicants): If you are currently in the United States under a different nonimmigrant visa status (e.g., B1/B2, F-2, H-4, etc.) and wish to change your status to F-1 without leaving the country, you must follow the steps below:

  • Prior to enrollment, students should ensure they have reviewed the school's catalog and refund policy.
  • Completed application form along with all required supporting documents:
    • Copy of a valid passport (valid for at least six months into the future)
    • Copy of current visa and I-94 record
    • Copy of high school diploma or higher, or equivalent educational credential
    • Bank statements must be issued within the last 60 days. Statements must show a minimum of $15,000 USD (plus $3,500 for each dependent) to support issuance of a one-year Form I-20
  • Fill out and sign the enrollment agreement form and pay applicable registration and tuition fees according to the school's payment policy.
(A non-refundable application fee of $100 is required.)
  • Receive Form I-20 and Acceptance Letter from DreamIT ESL
    • Once accepted, you will be issued a Form I-20 for "Change of Status" (not for travel). This I-20 is used to file your I-539 Change of Status application with USCIS.
  • Pay I-901 fee to SEVIS and receive a fee receipt.
  • File I-539 with USCIS. Prepare and submit your Form I-539 application to USCIS, including:

    • Your I-20 issued by DreamIT ESL
    • SEVIS I-901 fee payment confirmation
    • Copies of your supporting documents (passport, visa, I-94, financial documents, etc.)

***We strongly recommend working with an immigration attorney or qualified consultant to ensure accuracy of your application. DreamIT ESL is not responsible for the outcome of USCIS adjudication. ***

  • Maintain Legal Status While Awaiting Approval
You must remain in valid status while your change of status application is pending. You cannot begin full-time study as an F-1 student until USCIS approves your status change.
  • Start Classes After F-1 Approval
    • After your Change of Status is approved, you must report to DreamIT ESL in person and begin your program on the earliest available start date listed on your Form I-20 that follows your approval date.
    • Take the necessary placement examinations.
    • Register for classes and complete tuition payment (if applicable).
    • Attend new student orientation and receive the student handbook.
